read this if you are resizing your engagement ring

  • Read this if you are Resizing your Engagement Ring

One of the most challenging things while planning a surprise engagement ring, other than finding the right ring, is picking up the correct finger size. There are many easy ways to help you in estimating the correct size, something like secretly taking one of her rings and getting it sized, trace the inside of one of her rings or seeing if her rings fit on one of your fingers. But when you don’t get any chance to do such things, and you are only left with the choice of guessing the ring size then the chances are high that the ring size will need to be resized.

Guess the finger size as close as possible

Guessing the closest finger size is the best way, and hence these helpful tips are very useful. Why is it important to guess the finger size as close as possible? If an engagement ring needs to be resized, it is relatively straightforward to resize slightly up or down without any issues. However, if a broader resizing of a ring is required, then it can potentially affect the perfection of the design, its shape and possibly it may be an expensive exercise.

Designs that can be tricky to resize

You may come across certain designs that can be more difficult to resize. Such designs include rings that are set with diamonds all around or that with some detailed hand engraved pattern that also goes all the way around the band. To escape from running into any issues with such type of styles, we would recommend one solution, i.e. to leave a small space at the base shank of your ring to allow for any potential resizing in the future.

Things to consider when sizing your finger

It is worth noting that each’s hands can react in a different manner to the changing environment. This is important to keep in mind when giving your finger’s size or first time trying on your ring. It is observed that our hands are often at their largest first thing in the morning and will also swell up when the weather warms up. If your ring feels a little tight when you first try it on we suggest wearing it for a few days (make sure it is not affecting your blood circulation!) and see how it feels over the course of the day and with the weather changes.

Resizing your jewellery is a common practice, and there are many tricks to make sure your ring fits right! Due to the possibilities that your engagement ring may need a resize it is a good idea to check with your jeweller if they are offering such facilities with the jewellery.
